 GRAŠEVINA – Izborna Berba Bobica (Berry Selection)

Graševina is Croatia’s most widely planted grape variety—reliable, late-ripening, and consistently steadfast. More often than not, it yields an honest, dry white wine, simple as that. Yet, thanks to how remarkably well it withstands cold nights and braves early autumn frosts, it can linger on the vine long after other varieties have been harvested. Long enough for something truly rare to happen.

Last autumn, we took a deliberate risk. We left the grapes on the vine far beyond any safe window, fully aware that a single week of bad weather could destroy the entire harvest. Instead, noble rot—Botrytis cinerea—arrived, settling on the skins and slowly drawing moisture out of every single berry. What remained was no longer ordinary juice, but a pure, concentrated elixir of natural sweetness. A variety typically known as an everyday wine became, through patience and a stroke of seasonal luck, a Berry Selection (Izborna berba bobica). A Prädikat wine—a category we hadn’t been able to reach in years.

The wine industry confirmed its quality with prestigious honors. This year, our Berry Selection was awarded a Gold Medal at the Pomurje Wine Fair in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia: “Vino Slovenija Gornja Radgona BIO 2026.”

Tasting Notes:

• In the glass: A delicate, radiant gold—youthful and luminous, with its finest years still ahead.
• On the nose: Honeycomb, candied orange peel, and dried apricot—aromas born of noble rot rather than the grape variety alone.
• On the palate: Intensely sweet, rich, and full-bodied, yet balanced by a fine thread of natural acidity that prevents it from feeling heavy and carries a long, lingering finish. Serve in a small glass. This wine needs nothing more to shine, though aged cheeses or a subtly sweet dessert make exquisite pairings.
